Actor and director G.Marimuthu  who shot to fame with the popular Tamil television serial ‘Ethir Neechal’, reportedly succumbed to a heart attack Friday. He was 57. The actor recently appeared in Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer.

Beginning his career in the Tamil Film Industry as an Assistant Director, Marimuthu has worked in a number of films, including Ajith Kumar's magnum opus 'Aasai', directed by Vashanth Sai. Marimuthu also worked for several years as an Assistant to National Award-winning Poet Vairammuthu.2

His directorial debut was made in 2008 with the release of Kannumm Kannum, followed by the release of Pulivaal in 2014.

According to sources, Marimuthu had done a dubbing session on Friday for a serial and went home after experiencing uneasiness. The body was then taken to Suriya Hospital in Chennai, where it was kept for an extended period of time.

Talking to Sun News, Kamalesh, a Tamil serial actor who reportedly last saw Marimuthu on Thursday, said, “Marimuthu was doing a dubbing job at a studio in Vadapalani on Friday when he started to feel uneasy. After completing his half of the job, he said he felt suffocated and left the studio.

We thought he might be outside for a while, but when we went to check outside, he wasn’t there. He had gone in his car. We called his daughter, and she told us he had been admitted to Suriya Hospital. When we went to the hospital, we were told he was dead. It’s a huge loss.”

Marimuthu is survived by his wife, Backiyalakshmi, and two children, Akilan and Ishwarya
